Exit Through The Gift Shop

I watched this documentary a few months ago. It's quite fascinating. You should definitely check it out. http://www.banksyfilm.com/

At this point, I am still not quite sure how I feel about the documentary. I found the portrayal of street art and particularly that of Banksy and Shepard Fairey fascinating. Even though many see much of street art as disrespectful or irreverent, I think that this portrayal and the attitudes of many of the artists contradict that misconception. Banksy, in particular, despite his unconventional style and media, still has a respect for art and the art world. Mr. Brainwash, on the other hand, does not. I found his attitude toward art and his approach in general appalling. Like Banksy said, he would take some symbol or a play on another work of art and essentially run it into the ground. He would use it so much or present it in such a way that it became meaningless. I think he essentially took advantage of the public and make them believe that what he was doing was art. The most frustrating part of the whole thing is that he did it on purpose. The whole idea behind his title (MBW) was that he could brainwash people into accepting his work as art. Anyways, it was interesting. Let me know what you think about it if you watch it.
